Skincare. DIY Facial.

Since becoming a mom, I take care of my skin even more than before. Back then, I never bothered whatever goes on my skin, be it skincare or makeup and I had pretty clear skin. During pregnancy, i had flawless skin. AFTER I GAVE BIRTH TO SOPHIA, good skin was history for me. I had acne breakouts here and there on my cheeks. Doctor told me it was my hormonal changes after becoming a mother and I had to accept it. So I had a change of diet (it got worst when i went back to work) and a new skincare regimen.

I started watching ALOT of Youtube vids on skincare, makeup and DIY facial treatments and since then, the condition of my face was much better. I would say, lots of trials and errors along the way. I have oily acne-prone skin and it's pretty much a common skin type for Asian and even the Caucasians. I have "good" skin days when my face stays matte pretty much the entire day but I have had days where I could literally fry and egg on my face. I will nv leave home without my blotting paper and my thermal water face mist.

I know there are moms out there suffering the same issue as I am, especially after birth. Lucky you if your skin is uber flawless without makeup...

I've learnt that time is the most important factor. You have to be quite patient to see results of your skincare products. It's only with good skin then you won't need to pile on your makeup afterwards. Don't have a cake-face cos' that will cause more problems for your skin.

It is not necessary that expensive skincare equates fabulous skin. Whatever ads you watched on TV, they are basically gimmicks and I think YOU should be aware of that before I mentioned here, huh..... Also, it doesn't mean you have to use the ENTIRE range to see results. Our skin reacts to certain chemicals. For instance,  the toner of that range works well on you but not the moisturiser, perhaps it dries up your skin. Or, the serum works amazing on you but not the toner..or maybe, the moisturiser ONLY works amazing for you.. you get my drift?

WOOH! That's a long list, right?
I have another product which I have not received yet!! (Will update once I receive it!)

With all these, once a week (or sometimes 2-3x), I use sheet masks or I whip up my own DIY mask.

I love MY BEAUTY DIARY Strawberry Yoghurt Mask ( for hydrating and brightening ), Watson's Whitening & Moisturising facial mask is not bad too!! When I have the extra time, I will use a sheet mask before I apply my makeup on days I work. It really makes a difference! My makeup stays on longer and I don't "oil-up" that much! 15 mins is all you need for your sheet mask, then massage the essence into your skin, let it sink in & dry before you start your makeup.

The DIY facial mask I do all the time is the Yoghurt, Honey & Nutmeg mask. The ingredients are all mentioned in the mask itself! Just make sure you use pure natural yoghurt, a good brand of honey and organic ground nutmeg. You can also add in cinnamon as it has its benefits for healing acne and banishing the scars over time.

Mix all up, apply it onto clean face, leave it on for 15 mins then rinse with tepid water. I don't typically use warm water. Pores typically open up when you cleanse your face. The warm water just soothes your skin. Give a final rinse of cold water to tighten the pores. Your skin will feel super moisturise and you won't even need to moisturise after that.

This mask hydrates and brightens your skin and it also lightens scars. When I have acne flares, I will only use Honey + Organic Ground Nutmeg and spot-treat my flares. It helps to reduce redness and the chance of scaring.

To all mothers, even with kids, work and family to juggle with, WE MUST NOT NEGLECT OURSELVES! Feel good to look good. Look good to feel good. When we look and feel good, our family will also feel the same, esp the husband. Trust me, a man will always want their wife to look decently presentable as his wife and a mother of his child. Don't look dishevelled with bad skin... it is just wrong. Don't blame on time. Every mother will go by this quote, "I DON'T HAVE TIME!" You have to make time! Time waits for no men, or women. No one is gonna give you the time. You must know how to manage your time. As mothers, we go by routines. Squeeze out at least 1/2 hour FOR YOURSELF! Whether it's a workout, a good bath, a good facial or just sit and drink a cup of tea/coffee, YOU NEED TIME TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.

I did my facial while typing this! Now I needa get it off my face!

Later!

xox, A.
